Kaspersky Security 10.1 for Windows Server was released on March 20, 2018, with a full version number of 10.1.0.622. This update contains a number of new features and improvements, the full list can be viewed at https://support.kaspersky.com/14283#block2.

Upgrading from the previous version of Kaspersky for Windows Server (10.0.0.486) is possible using either a manual installation or an installation task from your Kaspersky Security Center console (KSC). The previous version does not need to be uninstalled first as the installer will simply upgrade the existing installation.

Upgrade Process

Issues encountered and work-arounds

Depending on your current configuration, it is possible that there may be an issue encountered when performing the upgrade (we encountered a few during our testing and migration process!). Below are two workarounds for issues that can be caused by certain configurations for the previous version of Kaspersky for Windows Server:

1. Issue: Installation of 10.1 fails and error 11922/110 in event log - Anti-Cryptor component blocking installation.
Fix: Temporarily disable the anti-cryptor component in the policy for the target machine. This will allow the installation to go through. The anti-cryptor component will be started when installation is finished by the policy for the new version of AV.

2. Issue: The upgrade task may also fail with an error in the event log referencing insufficient privileges to remove/install system services.
Fix: This is caused by the permissions for the windows service KAVFS being incorrect or corrupted. To repair this error, you will need to manually remove the service entry and restart the computer.

You can remove the key by running this command with administrative privileges.
“reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\KAVFS\”

Cleanup

After either of these issues, you may need to repair the windows server 10.0.0.486 installation again before attempting the 10.1 upgrade.
To do this you need to locate the msi for the previous version, right-click the file and press repair.  You should be able to find these files in the KLShare on your KSC server.
